WAY cool idea for bird lovers!
Check out this video!
My BIL (and maybe SIL too, I don't know, you will have to let me know OK?!?!) LOVES birds. If anyone I know would set something like this up, he would be the one (and if you do, you need to invite us over - the kids will LOVE it ... and your dog .. but that is another story). :D
OH the beauty you can see out your window every day! :D
Did you know bird like MOVING water? I noticed a waterfall bird feeder in the video. Birds will skip your birdbath for the neighbor's dripping faucet! Not sure why, but it's true! :D We are learning about birds and all sorts of nature things thanks to a MOST awesome gift we got for Christmas this past year! Thank you (you know who you are)!!!

FREE FUN: Toliet Paper Bowling Fun
The best thing about TP from Costco is they are all individually wrapped! Allows you to go indoor bowling and use as many (or as few, but what kid chooses less when they can have MORE?!?!) rolls as you want!!!
The kids had a BLAST bowling (just use any ball) for about an hour! Then they moved onto fort building, and finally just knocking them down after building a wall at the top of the stairs! There is nothing like hearing TONS of giggles and stomping feet as toilet paper falls down the stairs! :D

Family Fun: Horse Show, A Card Game
At a recent trip to Goodwill, I found the game Horse Show. It is a card game.
What I really liked about this game was the fact that you not only had to use math, but critical thinking skills. You could only pick so many horses and had to have the right score in order to win the blue ribbon.
AA says (9yrs):
It was really fun. I really liked the math. And I especially liked the horse named Valentine and one named Princess. I had lots of fun.
EE says (7yrs):
I liked playing with my family, but it was a bit difficult for me.
I think the main reason it was difficult for EE was because we didn't quite grasp that you wanted to pick high numbers in certain areas for the judging. You had to not just pick numbers and add, but think ahead to what other areas of judging might come up and make sure that you have a horse for each area of race. She was picking pretty named horses. AA and I were picking horses with higher point values in certain areas.
All in all, I think next time we play and include the younger ones, we will use the rules for younger players. But AA and I enjoyed the game and will play it again. And even though we liked the game, I would NOT pay full retail for this. I got the game for 50 cents and it was in excellent condition. :) It was not that great that I would pay full price. So all in all, if you see the game at the thrift store, it is worth picking up. :) We will prolly play it a few more times, but it is definitely not one that we will goto again and again. I will prolly try to barter it in a few months.

Everyone gets together and brings games that they no longer play (but is still in good shape and playable - i.e. has all the pieces and rules) and then take as many games as they bring! I am gonna see if my homeschool group would be willing to do this sometime in a few months! LOL!!!

8 Random Things Tag
Cindy (a dear friend who has a really nice blog which I don't get to read NEARLY as often as I would like, but you should DEFINITELY check it out) has tagged me.
So, 8 random things about myself:
1. I cannot STAND bugs. I have an irrational fear of them. So much so that I have to flush them down the toilet so they will not come back to get revenge on me for trying to kill them.
2. While I loved to read fiction as a child, I rather spend my time reading non-fiction books now. Books that help me be a better wife, mother, and child of God. I do read fiction to the children (Five Little Peppers, etc.). And I am currently reading a favorite that is a fiction book: Stepping Heavenward. If you have never read this book, you must get your hands on a copy!
3. When I eat a Resses Peanut Butter Cup, I have to nibble all around the outside edges first, Then I eat the rest. :D
4. I do not shampoo my hair!
5. I have no decorating style or sense whatsoever. I cannot match colors or fabrics. I leave that up to my beloved!! :D
6. I used to write poetry when I was in college.
7. I was in theatre all through high school. My senior year I was in a play that went all the way to State and won second. I had a minor role (about a 4 minute scene with a short monologue I helped write), but it was moving enough that the judge mentioned me specifically in the critique as being especially moving.
8. I have a problem with pride (see number 7). LOL!!! :)
OK, so I am not sure I even know 8 people who would actually DO this tag. So I am tagging ALL of you!! LOL!! Anyone who reads this and wants to participate, post a link in the comments to your answers! I will visit them all and comment! :)

I am a sucker for tags. SOMEBODY LIKES ME! LOL!! :)
So here is the tag from a fellow sister in Christ. Find the fourth folder and pick the fourth picture and tell four things about the photo.
1. The fourth photo folder on my computer is the "Photo Booth" folder which stores all pictures taken with the Photo Booth program on my Mac. The program allows you to choose from one of several options which distorts the picture, each in a different way. I am not sure which distortion was used on this picture.
2. The girls LOVE to use Photo Booth. It is a privilege! :) They usually say "Momma, can we play silly faces?" Then they take a hundred pictures, each vying for camera space, and all while laughing and making silly faces themselves (which come out even sillier by the distortion from the program).
3. The three in the picture are JJ, AA (sitting up) and EE (head leaning in).

Friday's Fun: Games
Here are some fun games to play outside during these last days of warm weather!
PAPER FOOT RACE:
Give each child two pieces of paper plates. Define a starting and finishing point. The object is to see who can reach the finish line first using the paper as stepping stones. The child's feet must NEVER touch the ground. Put one plate down, step on it, reach back to grab the other plate and put it down and step on it, etc.
I'M LATE:
Have a clock (it can be made from a paper plate). The person who is IT has the clock and sets it for a certain time. Then the person who is IT says "I am late I am late for a very important date!" Then the children ask questions: "Is it a time when you eat?" "Is it morning or night?" "Is it a time when you sleep?" They are trying to guess the time. When they guess the correct time, the correct guesser becomes IT and the game begins again.
ALPHABET GAME:
Each person has a sheet of paper. Using no proper names, see who can write a word for each letter of the alphabet (in order). The first accurately finished list wins!
MEMORY TEST:
Have a tray and put items on it (rubber bands, paperclips, pencils, toothbrush, etc.). Cover it with a cloth. When everyone is sitting where they can see the tray, remove the cloth for a specific amount of time (1 minute, 3 minutes, etc.). Place the cloth over the tray and take it away. See who can list the most amount of objects on the tray. Even better, HOW MANY of each item were on the tray.
DRESS UP RELAY:
Put a whole outfit of ADULT SIZED CLOTHING into a suitcase. Have two teams. Each team gets a suitcase. The first player puts on all of the clothing over his own clothing. Then he buttons every button and zips every zipper. Once completed, he takes off everything, puts it back in the suitcase and passes it to the next player. The next player does the same thing and so on until the whole team has put on and taken off every item in the suitcase.

Family Fun: Soapy Fun
My beloved is the best and bought me a recent copy of Mary Jane's newest book Outpost. I LOVE IT!! :)
There is a SUPER cute idea in there for guest soap for the bathroom.
Take a bar of soap and cut it into squares Take a
cute fabric and tear it into strips. Tie each strip around each piece of soap. Place tied squares into a decorative dish or basket for guests to use.
This is something easy that the kids can help with. And imagine their joy when grandma uses the soap THEY tied and decorated!!

OR, cut up it up and felt it and place in a decorative dish or basket for your guests to use. Be sure to watch the end of the video. There is a CUTE idea for a girls party!! And what a great family fun project! Each girl can make their own felted soap (no more arguing over bars of soap in the tub! :)

Take your soap shavings before they are hardened (when you are shaping the soap) and put them all into one of those buckets you can get from the bakery (that they keep icing in). Then, have the girls reach in every so often to grab shavings and make their own shapes of soap! This is also great fun to do at birthday parties (ask me how I know!). Or for rainy days. My daughter made the letters L O V and E so I have a little soap dish filled with love from my daughter. :)
And if you do not make your own soap, maybe you know somebody who does who can give you their left overs! :)

Missing Out
The other day I was on the phone with a dear friend whom I rarely get the pleasure of talking with. I heard giggles in the other room and promptly ended the call saying
How many times do I get busy and miss out on enjoying my children? It is no wonder so many parents don't see children as a blessing. They are probably missing out on the joy children bring because they are busy with other things.
Maybe most parents would try to quiet the kids down, or leave the room so they could carry on the conversation.
What would matter most when I am on my death bed? That I put my kids aside so I could finish an edifying conversation with a friend, OR that I enjoyed time with my kids? I am creating a legacy with them every time we laugh together! And what a GREAT legacy!!!
I think there is something special to the phrase LAUGH OFTEN!
This layout below is an older one, but one I felt went perfectly with this post. It is from 2006! It is amazing to look back and see how TINY they were, and how even my then 3 year old, now 5 year old looks so much older!

Family Fun: Bubble Baths
Tonight, just for the fun of it, and yes it is wasteful, but like the Mastercard commercials is truly PRICELESS...
I put WWWWWWAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY too many bubbles in the bath! I wish I had a picture, but there was no WAY I was about to take the camera in that room to get wet. LOL!!! But oh, the smiles will warm my heart and be a memory in my eye forever!

An on going challenge THAT YOU MUST CHECK OUT!! This is a GREAT way to share and get ideas for having fun with your children without things like TV, lots of money or other material things. Jumping rope and spitting watermelon seeds are the kind of things you will find here!! I LOVE THIS! Lemon Balm - Help With Allergies AND hyper active kids
Lemon Balm Leaf Steeping in the French Press God Blessed us with!
My daughter (EE) has pretty bad environmental allergies that came out of no where this year. A friend on the local homeschool group told me about Lemon Balm. She used to have to take Clartin if she planned to survive the day, but since drinking lemon balm tea, she has not had to take a single Clartin pill!!
Fill a pot of water 3/4 full and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add enough Lemon Balm Leaf to cover the bottom, and then some. Cover and steep a minimum of 20 minutes. The longer you steep the more nutrients are drawn from the herb. Dip into and serve in cups throughout the day. Of course by the end of the day, you have more of an infusion than a tea because the herb has steeped for so long (which is a good thing, it means more nutrients)! :)
We add local honey as local honey is really good to help with environmental allergies. EE has to have a minimum of 3 cups (one with each meal) or she still has sneezing and itchy nose/eyes. But as long as she drinks her three cups, there are no signs of allergies whatsoever! :)
We had been on the lookout for a french press to help with the tea. I had been asking at garage sales for three weeks. Either they were not selling theirs OR it had just sold. I never gave up though and believed if God wanted us to have one, He would provide one.
Well, a couple weeks ago, I asked at another garage sale. He was talking about how I need to look for a certain brand because it is the best. He was so thankful he had bought one because the one he had previously bought was not very good and did not work very well. I told him that I was on the lookout for one for herbs to help my daughter with her allergies and if he might be interested, since he isn't using the other one, getting rid of it. He went it, brought it out, and when I asked how much, he said just take it! FREE!!! I could not believe it. And while it may not work well with coffee, it works WONDERFULLY well with herbs!!!! :)
Shortly after we started giving EE the tea, we noticed an added benefit. You see, while EE is not ADHD, she can get pretty hyper at times and lose self-control quite easily. We noticed that she was much calmer and able to regain control of her self much more often since starting the tea! Turns out that is because lemon balm leaf has a calming effect!!!
It is perfectly safe for children, and even recommended for infants who need calming.
So what better, and more fun way, to get some lemon balm into the kids than with popsicles!!

Fridays Fun: When Mother Let Us Cook
The kids and I have SO MUCH FUN in the kitchen cooking together. In fact, when we were looking for a new house, a big kitchen that the girls and I could all gather and cook/bake in without running into each other was a must.
Today (FRIDAY JULY 18) ONLY, When Mother Let Us Cook is the freebie of the day. It is a book from 1908!! HOW EXCITING!
Friday is also our pizza movie night. We get out pizza crusts and all the toppings and the girls each make their own pizza. SO MUCH FUN! Sorry this is short, but there is a lot to do today. Go grab that freebie!!!

Friday's Fun: Homemade Popsicles
Popsicles are a GREAT way to cool down. They are so easy and fun (not to mention inexpensive) to make, that there is no reason why NOT to make them at home YOURSELF (well, with the KIDS of course!!
Right now, you should have some GREAT luck at all the garage sales finding some molds!! :)

Friday's Fun: INCLUDE YOUR KIDS!
Garage sale is upon us!! FINALLY!!
I know how difficult it can be to garage sale with children, but what a WONDERFUL time of family fun! Don't leave them in the car! I know that can be difficult (I remember those days of having a 3 yr old, a 1yr old and a newborn on my hip), but in a few years it will be SO WORTH IT!
I went sailing today, and all four kids poured out of the car. AA and EE both kept an eye of JJ while Momma looked around. And because they had been with me and seen me bargain, they ALL got a pretty good deal today! Each of them brought a quarter. AA (8yr) did the best coming away with three books for a quarter. MM (5yr) did second best with two book for 20 cents (she still has 5 cents!). Although I will admit I do need to talk to her about QUALITY as one of the books was very worn. EE got a very nice book. And JJ, well he got a book about bugs for free! Cute kids will get you free stuff!! LOL! Not that I take advantage of that. But it is something that is true.
Then at a homeschooling sale, the mom saw three beautiful girls the perfect size for the pilgrim costumes she had (just happened to have three the perfect sizes for my daughters). She gave them to my girls for free (bonnets and aprons included). WOW!
Not to mention it is a great home school opportunity to teach your children about finances! :) Yes, my mantra is Life is Schooling! :)
I truly enjoy garage saling. It would be so boring doing it by myself. I have such JOY in garage saling with my children. And that is not something that would be happening now if I did not bring them out with me at the garage sales. :) It is just one more way I can include my children in something I do, and tie those heart strings.
I know how difficult it can be to garage sale with children, but what a WONDERFUL time of family fun! Don't leave them in the car! I know that can be difficult (I remember those days of having a 3 yr old, a 1yr old and a newborn on my hip), but in a few years it will be SO WORTH IT!
I went sailing today, and all four kids poured out of the car. AA and EE both kept an eye of JJ while Momma looked around. And because they had been with me and seen me bargain, they ALL got a pretty good deal today! Each of them brought a quarter. AA (8yr) did the best coming away with three books for a quarter. MM (5yr) did second best with two book for 20 cents (she still has 5 cents!). Although I will admit I do need to talk to her about QUALITY as one of the books was very worn. EE got a very nice book. And JJ, well he got a book about bugs for free! Cute kids will get you free stuff!! LOL! Not that I take advantage of that. But it is something that is true.

Friday's Fun: Finger Knitting
EE just finished her first finger knitted scarf/headband. She could have done it in like ten minutes, but she got tired and put it aside and it got LOST until today. I did not think MM (4yr) was old enough to do it, but I was WRONG! She not only LOVED it (she asked me to show her how to finger knit), but she created a way to do it that was easier for her little fingers!!
Instead of bringing the string across all four fingers, she brought it across one, and jumped over. Then she brought it over the next finger in sequence, and jumped over. SHE LOVES finger knitting, even brings it to work on in the car! And she wants to teach everyone she knows! :) I AM SO PROUD OF HER!!!
